Meet the Glowbalites | Guest Star: Claire Wright
March 16, 2011
For those of you familiar with Glowbal Group, we hope you’ve come to know that we showcase not only a collection of restaurants, but also a collection of talented individuals who make our company great! We are fortunate to have the best talent that Vancouver has to offer, who give their all each and every day to achieve excellence.
We’d like to introduce you to Claire Wright, General Manager at Sanafir Restaurant and Lounge. Claire sat down with us to share a bit of her story.
Glowbal: Where did you grow up?
Claire: I was born on Saltspring Island and grew up in Victoria. I have lived in Vancouver since 2004.
Glowbal: How did you start in the hospitality business?
Claire: I started in the restaurant industry when I was 14 at Oak Bay Marina and I was managing the café by the time I was 16. I’ve worked at a lot of different places…Alfesco’s on Saltspring Island, Palmer’s Restaurant in Victoria, Watermark Restaurant, The Flying Squirrel and Paris Café in Australia, and the Edge Restaurant in Vancouver.
Glowbal: What’s your favorite part of this business?
Claire: I love the energy that our restaurants emit. I love how quickly my mind has to work and the constant challenges put forward. I love greeting customers with a yell and a hug and dancing with the regulars in the aisle. I am addicted to the intensity of a busy restaurant.
Glowbal: Do you have a favorite restaurant in the Glowbal Collection?
Claire: I started at Coast, so it is extremely close to my heart and will always feel like home. I love Sanafir because it’s the sexiest room in all of Vancouver. I truly feel like it’s a hidden gem and I’m committed to showcasing this epic room!
Glowbal: Tell us what you did before the restaurant business.
Claire: I was a nanny throughout my teenage years and have my degree in Education. I taught grade 1 for three years in Victoria, but had to come back to the continual excitement of the restaurant business.
Glowbal: What do you do in your spare time?
Claire: If I have spare time, I like trying out other dining spots. Of course, I love shopping and have a passion for fashion..FTV is the only channel that plays in my loft.
Glowbal: What don’t we know about you Claire?
Claire: I’m a very bad dancer…I’d never be caught dancing at a club, yet I am always dancing at work. It’s become quite the joke at Coast.
