Our Story
Emad and I fell into the restaurant industry by fluke. For however cliché it may sound, our life has been all about timing. I started as a hostess and he as a kitchen helper. Within weeks, I think we both realized we had found our passion.
We met at Joe Fortes in 1997. It was love at first sight—a story that for the sake of this one is history. I was running the floor and Emad was being recruited from Toronto to become an Executive Chef.
Our first real jump into the restaurant business together came with the opening of glowbal grill in Yaletown in 2002. Now approaching the 10 year anniversary of Glowbal Group, we look back and are amazed at how quickly time has flown and how much the company has evolved. It seems like only yesterday we were a team of 17. Today, we are a collection of 7 restaurants and an army of over 800 staff.
With each location we have opened since glowbal grill—Coast, Sanafir, Italian Kitchen, Trattoria, Society and now Black+Blue—we’ve learned more about the business, matured as a company and our customers have embraced our brand. With that, we still hold true to the values we had from day one—that every guest who walks through our doors is a guest in our home and every staff member who joins our team is our family.
This company was founded on a simple formula of passion, love, family, loyalty, no ego and loads of hard work. We’re truly humbled by the success we’ve achieved and so grateful to our loyal and supportive patrons who choose to dine with us.
